What role does the Catholic Church play in world affairs today?

International political, economic, and social systems have been constantly changing and evolving over the course of history and the Catholic Church has asserted itself as a valid, prominent, and powerful actor in world politics as the Church uses its social teachings, moral authority, and non-violent techniques to inspire and influence people and governments to act. The Church also has a permanent seat at the UN which it uses to urge the spread of hope, peace, and God's love through actions that are non-violent and in accordance with her Doctrines. These principles of Catholic Social Doctrine are a secure guide for the world and set forth fundamental directions for actions which will enable all peoples to live in secure society where a human person can raise a family, earn a living, and worship freely. In a society where faith is receding it is more necessary for the Church to play a role in todays affairs. If she were not involved...where would we be?
