Two of the biggest things you can do to make your car more fuel efficient is keep the tires properly inflated and make the engine move more air. To make the engine move more air, you need an open intake and an open exhaust system. Using a wider intake and wider exhaust pipe can also increase the engines horse power and low-end torque.
The air filter can cause a restriction in engine's intake, so by changing the filter, or by replacing it with a better one, you can increase your fuel economy. Not having an air filter will cause dust and debris to be sucked into the cylinders and can cause damage to the internals of the engine. A clogged air filter, or one that was made cheaply, will choke the engine and cause it to run inefficiently.
You'll want to look for a performance air filter. Basically these increase gas mileage by increasing air supply. The more air which is available and circulating, the better the overall gas mileage.
increases horsepower and gas mileage.
Air filter prevents dust particle entering the cumbustion chamber, however it restrict the passage of air, adding air filter will not increase the mileage in general, regular cleaning/replacement is necessary to prevent increase in restriction of air passage through it.
I usually change my air filter once a year, that is a good rule of thumb. If you dont change your air filter it can hurt your gas mileage. Its cheap to.
Poor performance, poor fuel mileage.
There is no magic to increasing the mileage. Make sure the engine is running the best it can. New plugs, wires, vacuum hoses, air filter. Correct air pressure in all tires. Drive for mileage, as in, take off slow, drive the speed limit. Other than that, there is not much you can do. Don't waste your money on so called, mileage enhancer devices. They do not work, and will only lighten your billfold.
change air filter if that doesn't work change gas filter
A clean air filter will always help with fuel economy. Restricted air flow results in more burned gas and reduced power.
The gas mileage on a 2001 Millennia S can be improved by performing a tune-up. This includes replacing the fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, and cleaning the injectors.
I put a high-flow air filter in and it significantly improved the gas mileage.
Lube, oil, & filter change, check and top off fluids, check air filter, & get a tire rotation. Pending on the mileage, it may need one of those mileage checks as well.
They are both very important. But a clogged fuel filter will stop the engine from even running. A clogged air filter will hurt performance and mileage but will not stop the engine from running unless it is totally clogged. Replace the air filter every 30,000 miles and the fuel filter every 50,000 miles.
