Regardless of the type of government, Politics and Economics have a 'chicken & egg' relationship. While politics sets the rules and laws that enable economics to succeed, business (economics) tells the politicians what works, what doesn't work, and what they want to maintain profitability.
Economics deals with money. If we study economics, then we will now how to spend our money wisely, to help out the world, or for our own personal gain. The government has most of the power in this department. They make federal money that the government can spend on stuff.
Public economics (or economics of the public sector) is the study of government policy through the lens of economic efficiency and equity. At its most basic level, public economics provides a framework for thinking about whether or not the government should participate in economics markets and to what extent its role should be. In order to do so, microeconomic theory is utilized to assess whether the private market is likely to provide efficient outcomes in the absence of governmental interference. Inherently, this study involves the analysis of government taxation and expenditures.
How much government should be involved in the economy
The link between economics and political science is economic policy. These are rules, or regulation, or policies that politicians make concerning the economy. Economic policy is a vast area that range from minimum wage to taxation to banking regulations. They have both political and economics consequences. A large portion of politics is about how government can (or should) influence the economy. The study of these economic effects relate to (a portion of) political science.
