A good safety measure is when you get a warning to head for higher ground ASAP. Also to a stronger building which is higher would be good. Have an emergancy kit with food water and a plan what to do if something goes wrong.

Drawing to scale means to draw real objects in their accurate sizes except they are reduced. A house plan is a common item that is drawn to scale. Model cars are another example of drawing to scale. The item is in proportion but smaller.

If you mean scale like a fish or reptile has, you could say "I found a snake scale in the woods." If you mean scale like on a map, you could say "The scale of this map is one inch equals one mile." If you mean scale as in to climb, you could say "We plan to scale Mount Baldy this weekend."
A 50 scale is used to make measurements on a construction plan. If a plan is said to be in 50 scale, then a length of one inch on the ruler is the equivalent of 50 feet on the plan.
