No known scripture points to Mormonism as a cult as people picture the definition of a "cult". The definition of a "cult" is a group that worships a being or individual, this would include Christian religions.
Billy Graham in the past stated several times that Mormonism was a cult, however, he has recently changed his mind and has gone through great lengths to change any references to Mormonism being a cult in his books or websites. He now states that Mormonism is a Christian religion.
There is no reference to miles in the scripture, theology, or doctrine of Mormonism. Mormons use miles to measure distance if that is the standard unit of measure in their country, but that is about all that miles have to do with Mormonism.
It depends on which one. If it is Christianity, Yes. If it is Mormonism or some other cult no.
When Rick Perry was asked if he agrees with his supporter Pastor Robert Jefress' opinion that Mormonism is a cult, Rick Perry responded by simply saying "No." He has not layed out his specific thoughts and opinions about Mormons, so about all we know is that he does not consider Mormonism to be a cult.
Probably, Under the banner of Heaven is a book about the origin of Mormonism.
Neither. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is no more a cult than any other religion. It is not typically regarded as 'mainstream', but there is nothing about the conduct of the Church or it's members that is cause to say it is a cult or 'sick'.
I believe the New World Translation was written by the Jehovah's Witnesses which happens to be a cult. They have taken scripture out of the original bible and added scripture as well. They have also rewritten some parts to fit their theology. Steer clear of this translation.
Nothing. The word "omiolo" is found nowhere in Mormon scripture, theology, or doctrine. The only thing that the word "omiolo" has to do with Mormonism is that there are a handful of people (mostly anti-Mormons) around the internet using that word as a screen name to post on Mormon-related sites. It is a made-up word.
Mormonism Unvailed was created in 1834.
The Rise of Mormonism was created in 2005.
Encyclopedia of Mormonism was created in 1992.
That depends on your definition of a cult. The technical definition of a cult is "A system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object." by this definition, nearly every faith or religious group is a cult! The Community of Christ is a relatively small group which split off from another faith (Mormonism), but they are very open about their beliefs and most of their doctrines align with mainstream Christianity. They do not live on compounds or closed societies and participate in mainstream society. Check out the "Related Links" to go to their official website.
