The problem becomes with the several translations from Adamic, Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, etc. Words don't always have exact translations into foreign languages and that has caused a lot of problems with interpretation and implementation. If you want an opinion, then man is to "rule" over women the same way that Christ rules over the church, that is with love, compassion, forgiveness, protection and longsuffering. He rules by serving, even to the point of laying down his life. There is no force, abuse, cruelty, sarcasm, deceit or selfishness. Woman follows as man leads. Just my thoughts, though.
