Mating can occur all year round, but happens commonly between Nov. and April. The female is receptive for a few days and mating is frequent then. The gestation period is 16 weeks. The litter size is around 3 to 4 cubs of 2 to 3 pounds each. They are born helpless. If the cubs of the previous litter is lost the tigress will be receptive and may give birth in 5 months. The mortality rate of tiger cubs is fairly high.
