"Wind" because you put your lips adjacent to the opening and blow softly across it causing the wind inside the tube to vibrate.
A clarinet is a musical instrument. It belongs in the woodwind section. Used in symphonies and such.
In the woodwind section, normally located behind the violas (near the middle of the orchestra), between the oboes and bassoons.
The bassoon typically sits in the second row of the woodwind section, which is behind the string section. Where the bassoons sit is ultimately a decision made by the conductor.
