Wireless routers can be secured by using different types of encryption, which require an encryption key to download. So if your router uses 'WEP' encryption, then you'd select WEP on the PSP, before entering the WEP key specific to your router.
A WEP key has nothing to do with your DS system but the WEP key is the password that is needed for secured wireless modem networks when you're trying to set up the connection with other devices. Most default WEP keys can be on the router or the modem already but if the key isn't a default one then you'll have to ask whoever set up your modem or Router for the WEP key.
If you are using non-secured or WEP type of network, it's more than possible.
Two are : WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access )

WEP means Wireless Encryption Protocol Its used in wireless communication. eg: in wi-fi connections
When searching for wi-fi hotspots, a red lock denotes any hotspot secured with WEP encryption.
it means its secured and you cant get into it!

A WEP crack refers to an individual gaining access to a locked or secured WEP access point. One can block this in their router settings by securing their internet with a password. One can also change their settings to allow only a range of IP address'. One can also try and block neighbor's IP address.
Yes, the fact it is "secured" is what that means.
You'll want to use WPA. WPA is newer and much better than the older WEP. Most importantly, several years ago it was discovered that a WEP secured network could be cracked into in several hours time. WEP is close to having no security whatsoever. You may find that some legacy hardware cannot handle WPA. Please do not let this be an excuse to run WEP, you'd be much better off abandoning that hardware for something new.
