with my car it was the camshaft position sensor after replacing it i get very good milage now.
Perhaps--unless the sensor itself is bad.
snac ecm for codes then using code data you can determine which sensor kbutlrtech@yahoo.com
You should check with a certified repair shop and have them scan it for codes. That is much cheaper than replacing parts.

Using an circuit involving a 9V battery and snap connector, a conductance sensor made of small plastic tubing and copper wire, and alligator clips, the conductance sensor is placed in the drink to be measured, and the electrolytes close the circuit. The multimeter can then read off the ampage you need to determine conductance using G = I/V, G being conductance in siemens, I being ampage, and V being voltage.

On the Malibu the Thermostat should be if I'm not mistaken Somewhere near the Manifold it looks like a copper colored spark plug it's thin and you should be able to remove it by using a small open ended wrench after you remove the sensor wire. Um, no. That is an oxygen sensor. The thermostat is located on the driver's side of the engine, underneath the airbox intake and throttle body. Follow the hose that comes up from the radiator and you will see a metal tube that attaches with two bolts. This is the housing. The thermostat is inside that.
You can pressure test with a gauge using sensor location
