You can pressure test with a gauge using sensor location
Remove oil pressure sensor and install a manual gauge
it could be or it might just be the oil sending unit (sensor)
You didn't say what the problem is. But if you question the sensor, replace it, it probably cost lest than $20.
No oil pressure - after checking with a manual gauge
Either the wrong or bad sensor, or your oil pump is blown out, and you should not be driving the vehicle. Technically, if the oil pump is bad, the vehicle has a safety shut off type of deal to keep you from damaging the motor.
That's oil pressure, not level. Low oil, bad pump, loose bearings, bad sensor. If it really is low, fix it or destroy your engine.
Remove the oil sending unit and install a mechanical gauge. Start the engine cold and let it warm up to normal operating temperature. It the oil pressure is correct then replace the oil pressure switch.
If it is a 1997 S10 4.3, with the engine running, remove the fuel pump relay, if the engines stops running, the oil pressure sensor is bad.
Hey Matt==It is on the pass side of the engine just above the oil pan screwed into the block. You need to have a manual gauge installed long enough to see if the gauge in the car is accurate. If you still have low or no oil preasure with the manual gauge, the oil pump or other things are bad. GoodluckJoe
Bad oil pump, low on oil, bad oil sensor All motors oil pressure drops at idle speed Just be sure it's not in the too low range
Oil pump needs replaced.Oil is not traveling through vehicle when pump is bad. Oil pressure sensor needs replaced if check engine light comes on.
Also you might want to check your oil to make sure it is up to the fill line. That will also stop the fuel pump from working. A bad sensor will cause a no start problem because it sends a signal to the fuel pump if it is working properly and you have correct oil pressure. If it doesn't send the signal, no fuel will be pumped to the engine.
