The Scotts spreader has a dial on there they call a micrometer. The settings on the dial are tested specifically with their products and their spreader. I'm not sure how they compare as I've never seen the Sears spreader. I spread 10,000 sq-ft of ACE Green Turf over about 12,000 sq-ft of lawn using my Republic rotary broadcast spreader. I used a setting of 4 for the front yard (which was too much) and 2.5 in the back yard (which was too little). So, I'm thinking the right setting was about 3. Not very scientific, hope this helps...
