a computer with lots of ram (more or equal to "8gb ddr3") , dual or quad processor (2.5-3.6 GHZ (speed)) by amd or intel,
if your work is not graphics intensive (ie just making spreadsheets/letters) the intel integrated graphics is included on mid range intel processors, otherwise get seperate graphics card from amd or nvidia.
**** IMPORTANT:= network card/interface (on motherboard) made by INTEL ,since you will be conecting to the internet for work. ****
(realtek,via,other generic brand of network cards are crap, really bad , last thing you need is downtime from silly people who do not know how to code their drivers properly).
Most importantly do not get a computer whose motherboard chipset is made by NVIDIA(different from graphics card)

Hi there, Well, things to look for when looking for a computer get personal as you may want a computer for mobility, gaming, working at home or just a home PC. If you are looking for mobility I would recommend buying a laptop, netbook or tablet PC. Working at Home would have to be a fast computer so it would therefore have to have a lot of space. If its simply a home computer buy an operating system that your family is farmiliar with, Apple, Windows, Linux etc...
