The area should be cleaned and assessed as to whether or not sutures are needed to close the wound. It's possible that radiographs of the thorax would be needed to look at any damage to the rib structure. Antibiotics & pain medication should be prescribed.
An X-ray usually does not show soft tissue damage. Unless you are worried only about broken bones, the MRI would probably be more informative.
