The story of Narcissus is that he was so proud that he spurned every girl who fell in love with him. The god Nemesis (hence the English word 'nemesis' for someone who is the cause of your downfall) decided to teach him a lesson: he led him to a pond where Narcissus saw his own reflection. Not knowing that is was just a reflection, he fell in love with it. He just sat there and stared at it until he died.
The story teaches us that we should not be self-absorbed, and accept and enjoy the love that others offer us.
