It should look like a big cone-shaped pile containing large, soft round (cylindrical shaped) pellets. The feces should also contain small bits of plant material in it (like tiny little sticks), and be a dark brown color on the outside (if it's a few hours to a day old) and a yellowish green on the inside, or greenish (if fresh). In the pastures, horses will make these piles. On the road or on a trail, usually these big pellets that hit the ground will sometime break apart, and will be more spread out. Horsemen and -women call these "Road Apples."

While a horses digestive system can tolerate much and the shavings themselves should pose no problems. The chicken droppings can contain disease, not to mention high concentrations of uric acid. Like all compost, the manure pile is not a good place to let the horse graze. Many animals will eat or taste the feces of other species but it is a good idea to keep your horse away from this.

Chipmunk droppings do look like mouse droppings. It can be difficult to tell the difference between the two. However, chipmunk droppings are a tiny bit larger.
