What should one do when a USB does not show up when plugged into a windows vista laptop?

This happens to me what i do is unplug it then restart the computer and try it again and repeat 3 times if it continues to not work you may need to buy a new usb :( or you could contact a profensional its up to you.
You may also want to try plugging the device into another computer. If it works there, then the problem lies either with the USB port on the laptop, or the device may not be compatible with Windows 7
