It never ceases to amaze me that American consumers willingly sign contractual agreements with credit cards companies and banks that authorize them to change the terms at any time. Most of us do it willingly, without ever uttering one word of complaint. So, it's nice to hear a complaint.:) Your contract with the credit card company allows them to change the terms to suit them. There is little you can do to prevent it. However, don't feel powerless in this situation. You have the same rights as all of us in any situation that you don't approve of. Make your voice heard, in a calm, "professional" manner. And do the most powerful thing you can do as a member of a capitialist society-take your business and your money elsewhere.
You can't MAKE a credit card company reopen an account. You can call the credit bureau and request that they change the status to indicate that is was closed by you and not the credit grantor. Or, you can simply put a notation in your credit report stating that the account was closed by you and not the card company.

In order to build credit, one must apply for a credit card and maintain their account in good standing. Any missed or late payments will most likely adversely affect their credit rating.
Debit account
When often another company buys a credit card company, they have purchased your account. Most often, it is business as usual, and payments are directed to the new owner of the account.
