The refrigerant pressure for a residential air conditioner is around 75 psi for low side input and 260 psi for high side output. If the unit is turned off the pressure will be about equal to the ambient temperature.
The symptoms of a bad ac compressor would be a grinding or rattleing sound or a low pressure reading on the high side with a normal pressure reading on the low side. The low pressure will be about 30 to 40 pounds. The high side should read around 150 to 200.

You need to specify what kind of system. Automotive AC systems and home AC systems use different refrigerants. That, along with the temperature/pressure relationship and ambient air temperature, all factor into what your high pressure (and, consequentially, low pressure) side should read on your manifold pressure gauge.
Ac compressor
Engine oil pressure, cooling system pressure, ac pressure, fuel pressure?
300psi
The same as it would be for any other R134a system - it doesn't vary by the make of the vehicle, and the optimum system pressure is dependent on the ambient air temperature and humidity level. Depending on what the ambient air temperature and humidity level is, your low should be reading anywhere from 28 to to 65 psig and the high side should be reading anywhere from 130 to 350 psig. Again, it all depends on the temperature/pressure relationship.
replacement is cheap. unplug the fans with the ac on, or block the condenser. Have gauges connected to monitor the pressure. It should trip before it reaches 400
left side on firewall should be on the side of ac condencer
Any AC, house or car has a pressure switch in the system so that if there is not enough freon in it, the compressor will not come on. The fan will run, but that is all. It is just circulating the air. Nothing will be damaged in the system running it without freon.
30-50
NOT COMPLETELT SURE OF THE PRESSURE ITSELF, BUT THE GM DUAL AC SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO HOLD 4 LBS OF R134 REFRIGIRANT. MANY OF THE AFTERMARKET KITS AND ADDITIVES WARN ABOUT EVER PUTTING MORE THAN 36 OZS INTO YOUR AC SYSTEM, BUT THE SUBURBAN AC TAKES A FULL 64 OZ CHARGE. YOU WANT TO GET YOUR PRESSURE TO THE POINT THAT WITH THE COMPRESSOR RUNNING, YOUR LOW SIDE HOLDS A 30 TO 40 PSI CHARGE. IF AT ANY TIME YOUR LOW SIDE LINE DROPS BELOW 25, SYSTEM SHUTDOWN WILL OCCUR.
