Wild insects should not be offered because they can carry internal parasites and diseases. Mealworms and crickets sold in pet stores are fine to be offered.
Basically, rats can eat any food that we would eat. They enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables. They have nutritional requirements similar to ours.
