You should always check the scene before entering. There could be a gas leak or other toxic chemicals in the air which caused the victim to become unconscious. You should also make sure there is no fire, or other life threatening circumstance's. Once you have checked the scene to make sure it is safe you should always wear and use protective equipment, such as gloves, goggles, scrubs, and resuscitation masks or shields. Be sure to wear or use these to protect yourself from viruses, and deceases.
Assuming the first aid provider knows how to give ventilations, if they don't go in re-position the head and try to ventilate again. If breaths still don't go in, perform unconscious choking technique.
It depends on the reason: if the mouth has sustained trauma (i.e. if it is bleeding), breaths can be given through the nose if the mouth is closed. However if for some reason no ventilation is not working and you are performing CPR, just continue giving chest compressions.
Chest compressions are a lot more helpful to the patient during CPR than giving breaths, especially in the first few minutes when the patient already has some oxygen still remaining in the body
They should check the airway. If there is nothing, they should administer breaths.
A breathing barrier device should be used if providing rescue breathing to minimize the risk of disease transmission.
If your are not trained in CPR or rescue breathing then you should not be giving rescue breaths as you can injure the victim. The lay rescuer should only provide compressions at a rate of 100 compressions per minute. AHA provides courses to learn CPR/ rescue breathing which are very beneficial.
If there is a pulse, then perform rescue breathing only.
You should check for signs of life every two minutes while performing rescue breathing on an adult or child
When giving rescue breath to a child how should you breath
Every 2 minutes check for signs of life when performing RB.
AEDs should only be used when a pulse is not detected. Rescue breathing should be used when the victim is not breathing.
Give the breath over a period of 1 second. You do this until you simply are to exhausted and unable to do it any longer. There is no time limit. You do this until proper help (rescuers) arrive. If person starts breathing by his own strength, then you stop, but you monitor until help arrives. If a person get only a little bit of oxygen all the time from you assisting breathing, then this can be worth gold when rescuers arrives. This prevents brain damage for one, and is the one main reason to carry on until rescuers arrive.Heart may have stopped too, so applying heart compression could be an addition to the situation.Learn how, it might be saving a life.

Check about every 2 minutes.
