50 - 100 beats per minute, with anything below 80 quite acceptable. If your resting heartbeat approaches 90 BPM or above, you might consider increasing the amount of aerobic exercise you are getting. Generally, the better one's physical condition, the lower the resting heart rate. Lance Armstrong, for example, runs arouund 35 - 40 BPM.
