John Quincy Adams came from an important and influential family: his dad was John Adams, who was one of America's "Founding Fathers"-- a leader of the American Revolution, who helped to write the Declaration of Independence, and also served as the second U.S. president (after George Washington) from 1797 to 1801. Like his father, John Quincy Adams graduated from what was then Harvard College (today Harvard University); also like his father, he became a lawyer, and later a diplomat. In 1824, he was elected as the sixth President of the United States, and served one term.
