Assess the situation. You can gain two very important pieces of information from this history, mainly...

* She is still concious * She is coughing, if you can hear coughs or any sort of sound, that mean the airway is still patent, even if only partially. Get her to bend over a chair and hit forcefully with an open palm of the hand between the shoulder bone. If this does not resolve after three strikes, call an ambulance.

When anybody is choking, the follow actions should be done---

  1. Encourage them to keep coughing. In the meantime, prepare to call 911.
  2. If the person is still conscious and coughing, hit them on the back using the following procedures---
  3. Get behind them, placing your legs oustide of the victims. Then, put your hand in a fist with your thumb inside, and wrap arms around victim, around the belly-button area. Then, in quick motions, move your hands in an upward gesture, to try to get the food out. --------OR----------
  4. Place one leg in between the victims, the other outside of one of the victims other legs. Place one hand around the belly-button area to support the victim's body. Then using the bottom part of your palm, where your hand connects to your wrist, hit the middle of the victim's back, a few inches under the shoulders.
  5. If the person is unconcious, then treat them with the following procedures-----
  6. Tell any other bystanders to call 911.
  7. Make sure the victim is laying flat on their back, and move items away from the victim.
  8. Tap the victim on the shoulder a few times, calling, " Are you okay?! " to decide whether they are conscious or unconscious.
  9. If there is no response, then bend down to listen for a heart beat, and breathing out of the nose. Do this by tilting the head and lifting the chin.
  10. If victim is not breathing, give victim two breaths by gently pinching nose and breathing mouth-to-mouth.
  11. If the chest does not rise, give 30 chest compressions by placing hand over hand onto the middle of the victim's chest.
  12. IF THE VICTIM IS A CONCIOUS CHILD, DO THE BACK BLOWS (Hand hitting back of victim) AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO KEEP COUGHING. IF OBJECT DOES NOT COME OUT AND CHILD GOES UNCONCIOUS, THEN GIVE MOUTH-TO-MOUTH (911 should be called by this point) AND BEGIN TRYING TO SCOOP OBJECT OUT OF MOUTH.
  13. When scooping an object of a child's or adult's mouth, you need to put your index finger in their mouth, (THEY MUST BE UNCONSCIOUS) and starting at roof of mouth, make a scooping motion as if scooping icecream.

What is the best action to relieve severe in a responsive infant?

begin cycles of 5 back slaps, followed by 5 chest thrustsThe best action to relieve severe choking in a responsive infant is to begin five cycles of abdominal thrusts. Use five cycles of back slaps along with the abdominal thrusts. If the object the child is choking on can be seen, attempt to remove it. Do not poke at the object blindly because the object could be shoved farther down the child's throat. If the child is coughing, let them cough it out. If coughing is ineffective, support the child in head-downwards position without compressing the soft tissues under the jaw. Administer one to five sharp blows in-between the child's shoulder blades (or middle of its back) with the heel of one hand. If the child is not choking on any object, it could be suffering an allergic reaction; seek medical attention immediately.
