If I don't want to be friends with someone I simply avoid them if I can, or just politely ignore them if i can't avoid them.

You obviously want to like them, but your probably worried about what your friends would think. just follow your heart and if you like them, then you should give it a go. if you dont want to like that person, you dont have to. but you like them wich means you have feelings that you need to express, no matter how embarrassing they are.
