At the earliest convenous you should bleed out the dot 3 and change it out with dot 4. More than likely the dot 3 will be fine but the difference is the dot 4 has a higher boiling point for extreme conditions. So while the dot 3 is in the system no racing or towing and the system will be just fine. If you boil the dot3 fluid in your system the brakes will become very soft or squishy.
It's ok , dot 4 is an improvement formula from dot 3.
DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 (but NOT DOT 5, which is silicone brake fluid) can be used in your car.
DOT 3
DOT-3
Dot 4 has a higher boiling temperature than dot 3 therefore dot 4 will make the car stop faster than dot 3. Dot 4 is used for racing purposes mainly, but it can also be beneficial when making an emergency hard stop.
Dot 3
Dot 3
DOT 3 brake fluid
DOT 3 fluid is used. You should only use DOT 3. It will say on the bottle.
The brake fluid used is DOT 3
