Cigarettes do contain nicotinic acid, which is in fact a toxin, and also the reason most people smoke. The concentration, however, is very low. As with all poison questions, dosage is critical.

Typically, with poisons like this, the victim will vomit it right back up, or it'll pass through the body. I've also see cured tobacco (from a cigarette, in fact) used in at least one fine kitchen as a garnish on a coffee-based ice cream.

While I'm not advocating eating cigarettes, a little nibble of tobacco is not likely to be lethal, or even harmful. I think you're safe.
