I'm not sure how your computer works but I had the same problem my laptop came with windows vista but recently I had to restart from scratch I still had windows vista.you should still have vista

This probably because windows xp is an old windows and runs quite slowly and Windows 7 is up-to-date and can run much faster. Another reason may be, because your Internet explorer on xp is not up-to-date (Internet explorer 8 is the newest) and the windows 7 already has Internet explorer on it. You might want to update the Internet explorer on the xp.

The best way to do this is to insert the Windows 7 installation disk and reboot the laptop. You should boot into the disc from where there should be an option to format the hard drive. This should remove everything from the disk Including personal information!!! After reformatting the disk, it should reboot and you can reinstall windows 7.
