First and foremost any Officer Candidate must either be admitted to the Naval Academy (competition and appointments make it extremely competitive) or the person must already have a 4 year degree and go through Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Rhode Island, for a 12 week course. OCS is essentially Officer Boot Camp for those that already have degree but have no prior military training, or are Enlisted and have made the jump to become a Commissioned Officer.
