mono is a kissing sickness. one way you can help is DON'T kiss anyone. even your boy or girl friend.
Kissing is one way of spreading mono. It's caused by a virus, and is spread in much the same way as the flu. Like when you have flu, you'll want to get plenty of rest and liquids. A few important things you should not do--even more so than with the flu--are strenuous activities, heavy lifting, or contact sports. Mono can enlarge your spleen, and leave it vulnerable to rupture. It may be a month or more before you can begin to resume normal activities. You would want guidance from your doctor as to when these strenuous activities are allowable.

If exposed to the virus that causes cold sores, especially before you are around 30, you are likely to have this problem, although it may not manifest until you are older. If you are 30 or over and never had a cold sore, you may not be going to get them. Likewise, you shouldn't share eating utensils, foods, drinks, etc., either.
