On all ford V blocks, Cylinder one is the first on the left, as you face the engine from the front. On most Ford engines the #1 cylinder is the first cylinder at the front of the engine on the passenger side (right side). Counting back from there puts #4 at the back of the right side, and number 5 in the front of the left side. Number 6 would be the second one back on the left side.
