The Bible does not specify but I think most people like to believe it was the left side, closest to the heart.

Answer:

As men and women have an equal number of ribs and an equal number of ribs on each side it is logical to assume that no male rib is missing.

So what is missing?

The term rib is not an accurate translation of the original Hebrew word. Many scholars now think the bone referred to was the baculum as this bone is missing in humans but present in most other mammals. The "rib" story was invented to explain this apparent anatomical anomaly.

AnswerToday, it seems improbable that God would have taken a rib from Adam, instead of simply creating Eve from nothing. In modern religious belief, God is perceived as omniscient and omnipotent, but in the earliest Hebrew traditions, God was anthropomorphic and had limits to his powers. In the Yahwist creation story (Genesis 2:4b-2:25), he could not make Adam from nothing - he needed some moist clay. So, similarly to make Eve, he needed Adam's rib. Perhaps also, the story was seen as more romantic if Eve was created from Adam rather than from another piece of clay.

The Bible does not directly answer that question. But the point is this: If humans can use biological material from one organism to produce another one of its kind, could not the almighty Creator fashion a human from existing biological material of another human? ? Interestingly, surgeons routinely use the rib bone in reconstructive surgery because of its ability to regrow and replace itself.

I found the following at BibleGateway.com: "So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[a] and then closed up the place with flesh."Footnote [a]: Or took part of the man's side.

So you see, it doesn't state from which side the rib was taken out.

The Bible simply stated that God took a rib from Adam's side, and from it He built for Adam a perfect counterpart, the woman Eve. (Genesis 2:21, 22)

I checked and found that I have the same number of ribs on both sides. Perhaps the author of this passage made a mistake about God taking a rib from Adam.
