Is anus the site of initiation of the defecation reflex?

Yes. The anus is actually composed of a few different elements that contribute to the defecation reflex. First, the anal canal is at the lower end of the rectum and is the temporary storage place for feces. When enough feces is in the canal, the pressure triggers the internal anal sphincter (circular muscle) to send a signal to the brain that you need to defecate. If it is not convenient to do so at the time, the external anal sphincter prevents the feces from exiting the anus and suppresses the urge to defecate. This may occur several times until the inevitable happens and the external sphincter has to allow the internal to let go, and voila, another defecation occurs.

What triggers defecation reflex?

The internal anal sphincter is governed by involuntary control, so it is reflexive. It is what triggers the feeling that you have to defecate. However, the external sphincter is under voluntary control. So, if you feel that you have to defecate, you can continue to hold your external sphincter shut, until the urge to defecate diminishes. Then, when it is convenient to do so, the internal sphincter again activates the urge to defecate. The anal sphincter has an internal involuntary part, and an external voluntary part. The internal sphincter has an involuntary reflex which gives your the urge to defecate. If it is not convenient to defecate, then the external sphincter, which is under voluntary control, keeps the anus shut, and after a while, the urge to defecate can subside until a later time when it is convenient to defecate.

How does Defecation occur?

What happens when we pump water into body through anus?

That is a good question! If you put water slowly into the rectum through the anus, it will be absorbed. Large amount of fluids can be administered by this route in children and the elderly people. If you put rather large quantity at a time, it will stimulate the defecation reflex.

When feces are forced into the rectum by mass movements and the wall of the rectum becomes stretched what reflex is initiated?

The defecation reflex is initiated by stretching of the wall of the rectum. This reflex facilitates expulsion of feces through the anus.

Is defecating a form of positive feedback?

Answered by, Respicius Rwehumbiza at the University of DodomaYes, defecating a form of positive feedback.Rectal contraction at defecation is suggested to be maintained by positive anorectal feedback evoked by continuous passage of stool through the rectal neck. This feedback appears to be affected through an anorectal excitatory reflex (ARR), which produces rectal contraction upon stimulation of anal stretch receptors. Abortion of this reflex by anal anesthetization seems to result in failure of the rectum to contract and in excessive straining to achieve rectal evacuation. ARR thus is suggested to be a second defecation reflex necessary to continue defecation, whereas the rectoanal inhibitory reflex is the primary reflex.

What organ contrast the process of excretion with the process of defecation?

I think for me the process of excretion with the process of defecation is by the process of excretion with the process of defecation. Therefore the defecation is the process of excretion by the process of defecation. Some says excretion is the process with the defecation process. That's why the organ contrast the process of excretion with the process of defecation.

What's the meaning of defecation?

What is the difference between excretion and defecation?

The difference between excretion and defecation is excretion is the removal of waste and defecation is the removal of undigested waste. During defecation, the nutrients are absorbed by the body before being removed from the body.
