Manual transmission? Look for the plug on the bottom of the differential (where the CV joints attach). It is flush with the surface and takes a 17mm "Allen wrench" or "hex key". If you don't have a 17mm Allen wrench, maybe your lug bolts are 17mm. Stick the head of one into the plug and turn it with a open-end or box-end wrench.

there is no fill tube or dipstick if it is a manual, there is a check plug on the transmission you have to check it with usually a Allen wrench of 3/8 rachet.
The drain and fill plugs need a 17mm allen wrench. There are some VW parts houses online that sell a special transmission drain/fill plug socket: it's a 17mm socket with about an inch of 17mm allen wrench stock welded into it.
Either you screw the whole knob off counter clock wise or it takes an Allen wrench to come off
