Most Catalina's were equipped with a 389 cubic inch V-8 engine. The 2+2 sport models had a 421 cubic inch engine. The 389 engines came in different configurations that affected the horsepower rating. Open the hood and face the engine. On the front, left side (as you face it) of the engine block is a two letter engine code. You can reference that code against another source and determine a lot of other information about the engine.
