The fuses for an '81 Subaru Station Wagon will be 10A, 15A, 20Amp. Fusible links are also located under the hood. The folks over at ultimatesubaru dot org have lots of good information on this sort of thing. Go to the "Older Generation of Subarus" part of the board. This will cover Second Generation Subarus, which includes the '81 wagon.

Not sure what type you have but, I have a DL station wagon and the fuel filter is located under the hood on the drivers side by the strut tower.
