Can I swap a Hayward D.E. pool filter pump motor with a Hayward Sand filter pump motor?

If, and only if, the horsepowers are the same and the fittings are the same size, yes. Don't change the horsepower of your pump without changing your filter without consulting a professional.

How do you know when you need new sand in a Hayward filter for an inground pool?

Depending on the size of the pool and the size of the filter and the amount of times you have to backwash, also if you have had a lot of rain then you may need to backwash more than usual. If you put the pool in and the filter and you know how old the sand is, if you are backwashing more than usual, change the sand. Also before you backwash check the pressure of the water going back into the pool, then backwash check the pressure again the pressure should for any size hayward pump push your hand away if it does not then change your sand.

What pump and filter size for 24000 pool?

Filter size is 250 sq. ft. at least!!! Pump size depends on if you have 1 1/2 or 2 in. plumbing. I would recommend a Jandy D.E. filter. The BEST!!!! Great filters!!!!!!!!!

How do you replace the sand in my pool filter?

If you have a sand filter You will note a pressure gauge on it When the needle goes too high into the red or when it indicates high pressure the filter will need to be back washed. To do this (stop the pump) then turn the handle on top of the sand filter to back wash. Start the pump. Usually there is a clear bubble on the side of the multi port control unit on top of the sand filter through which you wil see the water that is doing the backwash. This water is going to waste. watch it until it runs clear again and then stop the pump. Now turn the handle to rinse and start the pump again. this will help any residual dust from blowing back into the pool. let it run for about 45 seconds. stop the pump and return the lever to the filter position. If every thing was done correctly the pressure on the gauge will be down, there will be more suction and there should be a minimum of residual dust getting back into the pool via the returns. If you have a cartridge filter Just pull the lid of the cartridge filter Pull out the cartridge element and hose it down taking care to get as much dirt as possible from between the creases. Put the elements back in put the lid back on screw it down and let her rip. you should have proper suction again. If you have a DE filter follow the link below

What what size sand filter do you need for 23000 gallon pool with 1 hp pump?

I think you should go for a cartridge filter (Pentair 320 sq ft - we can supply for $600 incl frt). Cartridge filters are much better than they used to be, and are far, far more coinvenient than sand. Suitable sand filter would be approx 100 sq ft (and same cost as 320 sq ft cartridge).

How do you increase pressure for a pool vacuum with a sand filter?

Is this pressure of water going in a filter or pressure of water coming out a filter? Do you mean increase the flow of water? An increase in the filter pressure alone without going to a larger size impeller or newer pump will only indicate that the filter is getting dirty. If you need more flow consider changing the impeller or even upgrading the pump BUT you have to know what the outcome of that change will be. You have to know what the hydraulics and pump curve is in order to keep from overpumping the water. Too much flow can be detremental to the plumbing, the pump, the heater. Going to a large size pump most likely now increase your flow if the pipes can not handle that extra flow of water. Sometimes whrn a pump is not sized properly - going to a smaller size pump or impeller - whichever the case may be - will increase the flow of water or GPM. There is a is a trick or formula for sizing pool pumps, filters and heaters to a particular pool.

How much sand do you put into a 19-inch pool filter?

Read the manufacturer's manual on the filter. They give specific amounts of sand for each size of their sand filter configurations. I am not aware of any set formula in general. k My Ranger manual states 18" requires 200 lbs of media.

How does a sand filter work?

A sand filter has laterals (plastic tubes with holes in them) in the bottom, covered with a foot or more of sand of a particular size grain. Pool water is flowed onto the top of the sand and vacuum pressure draws the water through the sand. The particles in the water are trapped in the upper level of the sand and the clean water flows through the laterals and back to the pool. As the dirt builds up on the top of the sand (the schmutzdeck) the filter actually cleans better. Once the dirt layer is thick enough to impede the flow of water, you have to remove it by backwashing. You do not want to backwash too often or you will lose the efficacy of the filter. Be sure to shut off the pump before you move the lever to backwash or you WILL crack the laterals - requiring a very expensive repair.
