What is the average weight of a skein of acylic yarn?

if you mean a basic knitting worsted weight for afghans normally in yarn shops they are 100 grams skeins which is 3 1/2 ounces.. if you mean in knitting stores the smaller skeins for children's and adult fine garments they are 50 grams 1 3/4 ounces .. years ago they used to be 4 ounces and 2 ounces , but like the coffee cans they shrunk .. in craft stores the large skeins can be 200 grams or even more .. but craft yarn is exactly what it says CRAFT not for garments .. unless it states it is for afghans or sweaters etc .. so be careful of craft store yarns and make sure if you buy there that you buy for the right purpose

What is the Mathematical formula for calculating gsm of woven fabric?

Grams per Square Meter:(no. of warp yarns per inchXdenier)+(no.of weft yarns per inchXdenier)/size of the fabric in incheg: 10 yarns in warp x 10 yarns in weft, denier(density) is 1000.1 mtr : 33.316 inch so 1mtr area = 228.6 is constant.say,((10X1000)+(10X1000))/228.6= 87.48~87.5 GSM.

How many skeins of yarn for a king size afghan?

It really depends on the pattern you use. Some require significantly more yarn than others. A simple DC stitch would use less than a SC stitch (for example).

How do you make one skein of yarn with left over yarn Can you make one jumbo skein instead of several small ones Is there another way other than the Russian join?

Yes, you can join leftover yarns together to make skeins of yarn. There are no size limits to the skein that you create, make it the size that you want. There are many ways to join yarn--a simple knot will do the trick. Personally, I like the Weavers Knot (see attached video). I also added a video which shows braiding the ends together. Friends I know use the "spit" method, if they are using natural fibers. Also, you can weave in the ends. But, if you have a lot of ends, that can be a project in itself.

How can you tell if unlabelled wool is double knitting?

You can get a rough idea by comparing it with a known sample, being careful not to stretch the yarns. You can weigh the skein and measure its length, and see how that compares with the numbers for the known yarn. You can use a double knitting pattern and make up a swatch to see if the size is approximately right. Even yarns with the same designation can vary quite widely.

Can I use worsted weight yarn with a size 4 crochet hook?

You may be able to. However, worsted weight yarns are very variable, and some will be too thick for a 4 mm hook. If you mean a US size 4 (E, 3.5 mm) it would be pushing it. As always, work a small swatch, perhaps a 3 inch square, to see if it is satisfactory.

How many lbs of yarn for a double crochet blanket for twin bed?

You would need to specify the hook size, yarn name and thickness. Yarns vary enormously in how far they go. Try making a six inch square, weighing it on good kitchen scales and estimating from there.

How many skeins of worsted yarn is 18 oz?

There isn't a way to figure out how many skeins of worsted yarn would equal 18 oz. You would need to look at the yarn, and see how many ounces are in that particular skein and go from there. The word "weight" in yarn refers to the size or thicknessof the strand of yarn, not an actual ounce, pound, gram or kilogram. Then the size or thickness would be measured by how many stitches are in 4 inches. The Yarn Council of America has a guideline for "weight" measurement for yarns. The reason there are variables in the actual skein ounces, grams weight, is that different fibers of the same length would weigh differently--some are lighter or heavier than others.

Are 2 strands of double knitting equal to 1 of chunky?

Usually yes. The best way to test it is to take a ruler and wrap the two strands together around the ruler continuously for one inch length (make sure the yard does not overlap, nor leave gaps). Then take a strand of chunky yarn and do the same. You should get the same number of rotations around the ruler for each. You may also want to note that using two yarns together of different colors will give you a nice heathered effect in the finished product.

How much does it cost to purchase Merino Wool?

Merino wool, used in knitting and textile making, can cost a bit more than simpler yarns and fabrics because of its high quality. Some sellers sell Merino wool raw (unspun) for roughly $50 USD per 5-6 lbs. One can purchase Merino wool yarn for a higher price than cotton or polyester yarns at a yarn shop or craft store, but the price will vary.
