There should be a hole in the backing plate somewhere, top or bottom that you can remove it through. Line it up and smack it with a hammer. Insert a new one and draw it in by tightening the nut on it.
Remove backing plate on headlight unit.

Remove the decorative radio retaining plate. Remove the retaining screws. Pull the radio out. Remove the wiring harness. Remove the antenna cable.
You must remove the entire tailight panel - remove trunk liner and the recessed nuts.

The backing plate on a lathe is used to mount the chuck to it and is the adapter to the lathe spindle.
you have to remove both rear wheels ,remove brake drums, remove brake shoes,loosen brake hose or metal line and remove, remove bolts holding wheel cylinders to backing plate and replace, clean backing plate and hardware and reinstall all in reverse order, adjust rear brake and bleed system to remove air from lines.

On drum brakes the backing plate is what all the brake parts are mounted on. The springs, shoes, and wheel cylinder are all mooted to a stationary backing plate. On disc brakes the friction material or pad is glued or riveted to the baking plate.
