Many codes say the vent can be 1/2 the size of the pipe being served but in no case less then 11/2" and considering a lead bend (toilet drain) can be 3" and the new fixtures have 1.6 GPF in lieu of the 3.5 GPF a 11/2 vent pipe is fine

The tub and toilet connect to the same drain at some point. The main drain was plugged but the connection between the toilet and tub was still open. Water seeks it's own level. When the water came up in the toilet, the tub was lower so some of it went there.

As of about 4 hours ago, I had a clogged toilet. We had had several days of extreme cold temperature. Trying to unplug the toilet with a plunger I determined that the main drain was stopped. I poured a gallon of anti-freeze down my sink and within 5 minutes, the whole toilet went down and flushed.
