well my 97 Chevy 1500 extended cab has a 5.7 in it and averages around 15 mpg so i'd have to say yours would get better gas milage
I have a 1998 Chevy 1500 extended cab short bed step side, it will take 22 gallons when empty, I also have a 1998 extended cab fleet side it will take 25 gallons when empty. Hope this helps.
