You need to be physically fit, pass the mental, physical, and written test, (reading, writing, math), older than 18, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, certified in first aid and CPR.

When you are brought in for another interview there will be a polygraph, and you will need to have your physical/mental skills tested. You need to prove you have a clean background, no DUIs, have been clean for 5 years and pass a drug test.

To be a police officer, you need to be 18 and fit but don't need any gcses but if you do good in maths and English your more likely to get through

Be at least 21 years of age; posses or have the ability to obtain and maintain the following: Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license, Massachusetts Class A large capacity firearms permit, Massachusetts Special State Police license in accordance Massachusetts General Law Chapter 22C s63. Must be able to successfully complete a comprehensive pre-employment physical, background investigation, and drug and psychological testing. Prior to appointment, successful completion of the Massachusetts Police Training Committee (MPTC) (formerly the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council (MCJTC)) Basic Police Officer Recruit Academy, Massachusetts State Police Special Police Officer Academy, Reserve/Intermittent Academy, or equivalent. Preferred: CPR/First Aid/AED certification, along with other licenses and certifications prescribed by the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police or his/her designee, campus law enforcement experience.
In order to be an effective police officer, it helps to have an inquisitive mind, a sharp memory and an eye that catches little details. There are a number of other police officer requirements that also play into being a good cop.
Most departments have a standard that includes a minimum age (usually 18 to apply), as well as a minimum high school diploma or GED (General Educational Development). Citizenship in that country is also a requirement, as well as good understanding and an ability to communicate in english, and no criminal record.

But remember, these are just minimum requirements. Competition is usually fierce and going above and beyond the basics will make you a more competitive applicant. Having post secondary education- university degree or college diploma, volunteer work, a second language, related work experience in criminal justice, and past work experience dealing with people, are all beneficial to the applicant.

Ability to speak multiple languages, military background, college degree are the top skills in my opinion.

Great question. I would say with the environment these days that great communication skills is the #1 quality that anyone in law enforcement needs to possess.
You need to be able to act calm under pressure and not have a favourite.

No special skills are required. All training needed is completed in the police academy. Of course good problem solving skills and good communication skills help. It is not a requirement.
