The Earth is not a perfect sphere. The rotation of the planet has caused the Earth to 'bulge' to a certain extent. The distance around the Equator is further than any other measurement of the circumference.

Bastogne, a small town in Belgium was the scene of intense combat during the Battle of the Bulge. The Germans were attacking the thin American lines in an attempt to reach Antwerp, in hope of cutting of Allied Supply lines. For this to be successful, they had to go through Bastogne which had major roadways passing through it. This battle was very important in halting the German advance, which was its last major offensive action of the war.

I think maybe Battle of the Bulge might be one of the most important battles in World War 2 because was a big and the bloodiest battles in World War 2.The Germans attacked small areas of the Allies,or at least I have been told. Also I think maybe the battle for the Atlantic that was December 1939-1944 because I believe it was a battle on sea,and it had something to do with German ships sinking, but I could be wrong.I think of any other battles I'll post.

The Greeks sank half the Persian fleet off the small island of Salamis during the Battle of Salamis in 480 BC as part of the Greco-Persian Wars. This naval battle was a significant turning point in the conflict, leading to Greek victory and the eventual defeat of the Persian invasion.
99.9% percent of the combatants during the battle on both sides, were Naval personnel. There was a small detachment of US Marines on Midway island; if they had any fatalities, it went into a dozen or more. IJN Marines afloat (in transports) were not sunk during the battle.
