Those who wish to be rid of their Karmic debt will isolate themselves from society and go through many physical trials. Fasting is the main physical trial. Renunciates will beg for food and it is seen as good Karma for the lay people (house owners) to give food to them.

They also sustain from alcohol as it is an impure substance that will gather bad Karma.
