Marigold

Though Nirvana did do a fair bit of covers, the one original Nirvana song to be released that was not written by Cobain that comes to mind is "Marigold", which was penned by the then-drummer Dave Grohl, who now fronts and writes for The Foo Fighters. It was released as the B-side of Nirvana's first "In Utero" single "Heart-Shaped Box", then later as one of the 82 tracks on "With the Lights Out". There are other songs by Grohl for sure, but of whether they've been released yet or not I'm not sure, and Krist Novoselic, the bassist, most likely has some Nirvana era material as well.

  1. I'm Only Sleeping
  2. And Your Bird Can Sing
  3. Doctor Robert

These three songs were "borrowed" by Capitol Records, and released weeks ahead of Revolver, on the US compilation Yesterday and Today. (The mono version of the album used the plain mono mixes; the stereo version used Capitol's "duophonic" stereo processing.)

Consequently, the US version of Revolver has only 11 tracks, but the UK version has 14.

Nowadays, all The Beatles songs are available on CDs - EMI released 2 Past Masters CDs which contained tracks (principally on singles) that hadn't appeared on Albums.

In the UK, the Beatles had a policy of not putting single tracks onto albums - although this policy wasn't always followed; for example, their first 2 singles both appeared on their first album.

The tracks that didn't appear on albums are:

Love Me Do (original single version, with Ringo on drums)

From Me to You

Thank you Girl

She Loves You

I'll get you

I want to hold your Hand

This Boy

Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand (German language version of I want to Hold Your Hand)

Sie Liebt Dich (German language version of She Loves You)

Long Tall Sally

I Call Your Name

Matchbox

I Feel Fine

She's a Woman

Bad Boy

Yes It Is

I'm Down

Day Tripper

We Can Work it Out

Paperback Writer

Rain

Lady Madonna

The Inner Light

Hey Jude

Revolution (single version)

Get Back (single version)

Don't Let Me Down (single version)

The Ballad of John and Yoko

Old Brown Shoe

Across the Universe (from charity album)

Let It Be (single version)

You know my name

The Revolver album 'only' had 14 songs (11 in the US). The Beatles wrote and performed many more than 14 songs, so manyBeatles' songs did not appear on their album 'Revolver'!

However, if you want to know which songs are on the UK edition of Revolver but not on the US version, see Related Questionsbelow.

  • Good Day Sunshine
  • Got To Get You Into My Life
