though most people will tell you no, and that it is a mistaken identity for the barred owl" who cooks for you". i myself have witnessed on three seperate accounts black bears hooting, one so close to me that it was ear shattering, and i could even hear him shuffling off Into the Woods. the bear's hot is very distinct and occurs in threes, with the last ending in a growling whimper.
