The Blackfoot tribes (Blood, Piegan and Blackfoot) played many typical Plains games including:
Hoop and pole was a game for boys and young men, where a spoked wooden ring (itsewah) 3 or 4 inches across and covered with deer skin was rolled along a marked course and arrows were thrown at it. Points were awarded according to how the arrow landed within the ring. This as a real test of skill and accuracy.
Blackfoot dice were flat bone sticks about 6 to 8 inches long, marked on one side with zigzags, crosses, stripes or dots and unmarked on the other. Women gambled against each other by dropping these dice on the ground and counting the score or lack of it, using sticks to keep a tally of their own score.
The Blackfoot Indians played many games but the one associated with them most was a "hoop and dart game". It was played by throwing darts through a hoop for points. The hoop could be laid on the ground, hung from a tree, or even rolled on the ground for a more challenging version. This game was very common among the other Plains Indians as well.
