it all depends. Being Samoan myself its usually because at a young age sports were one of the only things that elders knew to get into college. But overall Some Samoans are forced to play sports.
I wouldn't go as far as to say that Samoans are "forced" to play sport. Samoans are like any other nationality with people who are naturally gifted at sport, and people who are not. Yes there are large numbers of Samoan athletes in professional sports, but that does not mean that there are NOT a large number who are academics. Saying that sports is the only way to get into college is abit of a presumption seeing Samoans do not only live in the U.S...AND there are HUGE numbers of Samoans who are in college/university simply on their own educational merit.

∙ 14y agoAmerican Samoans tend to play the sports that people play in beautiful weather. For example, they play Baseball, Basketball, football, hockey, soccer, and volleyball. But they don't play ice hockey or the winter sports in their tropical paradise.
