Construction Crew Jobs - A World of Opportunities?

For someone who would like a hands-on physically demanding yet rewarding career, working in a construction trade could be just the right choice. Construction crews are always looking for quality workers for assistance in completing projects. Since a construction worker is such a broad term, here is a list of all the trades such a title could include: bricklayer, carpenter, ironworker, carpet layer, dockworker, heavy equipment operators, heating and cooling specialists, electrician, fencer, janitor, landscaper, painter and decorator, plasterer, plumber, pipefitter, roofer, steel fixer, steel erector, tiller, and a welder. Many who would like to work in a construction trade choose to become an electrician. These tradesmen specialize in the electrical wiring of both new and existing buildings and related equipment. To become an electrician, many enroll in an apprenticeship that lasts from about 3 to 5 years, under the general supervision of a Master Electrician. In most cases, receiving instruction in electrical theory and electrical building codes is required to complete the apprenticeship program. Another career option in a construction trade is to become a bricklayer or mason. A bricklayer is a construction worker that lays bricks to construct brickwork. A bricklayer usually has to complete a three year apprenticeship, and 144 hours of college class hours. As in the two fields mentioned, most construction trades require some type of apprenticeship or education. All construction workers need to be familiar with OSHA requirements, and building codes. Although general construction in the United States is a bit down due to the economy, there are still many construction crew jobs available. One may look for such a job through a temporary service, as construction crews often recruit workers this way. A temporary job may lead to a long term job through a contractor, if the worker shows real initiative. The starting pay of a general construction worker is from about $11-$12 per hour. However, the average pay for a construction worker with some experience is $14.31, or about $34,000 annually. Depending on if the worker has a specific trade; the earnings can be much higher. For example, an electrician with less than three years of experience can make about $42,000 annually.
