How did Texas gain independence?

Texas had help from the United States of America. They got very lucky, though they lost the battle of the Alamo.Mexico's dictator, General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, responded by leading an army of several thousand men north to subdue the rebellion. Santa Anna won early victories at the Alamo, a fortress built on the ruins of a Spanish mission in San Antonia, and at Goliad. But the tide of the Texas War for Independence changed when 900 Texans led by Sam Houston regrouped at the San Jacito River. There they surprised Santa Anna's troops in a battle that lasted just a matter of minutes. Victorious Texans forced Santa Anna to sign a treaty recognizing the Republic of Texas. Nine years later, in 1845, Texas was annexed, or added to the United States, becoming the twenty-eighth state.
